Shamu camWell today it has been confirmed that SeaWorld's shamu cam has been shut down. The question that I have is why? Well it would seem that the company have had to much bad publicity. Watch the webcam at anytime and you would have seen either orcas floating listlessly at the surface, swimming in circles, lying on the bottom of the tank or attacking each other. It is no wonder that SeaWorld dod not want the viewers to see this 'normal' behaviour.
In shutting down the camera, they prove to the public that they have something to hide. That is the only reason that they have to shut it down.
This is yet another reason why you shouldn't trust places like SeaWorld. If they have something to hide, investigate it.

Saving OllieA very interesting story for you all tonight, this one about a dolphin named Ollie.
Ollie is a wild dolphin in our Australian waters whose tail was taken off by a shark, and much like Winter the dolphin but maybe more incredibly, Ollie has taught himself to get around fast in the ocean by twisting around like a torpedo. Sea World Australia now have permission to capture Ollie if he shows any signs of distress, and plan on making him his own prosthetic tail. Now, this story absolutely fascinates me. This brave and determined animal has fought against odds and taught himself to survive without his tail, all by himself!! We can now only pray and hope that Sea World are successful with the capture and prosthetic tail and that amazing Ollie lives his live to the fullest!!

Humans, the most intellegent species?Found this video about shark finning, and how you could walk into a restaurant in San Fransisco and order Shark fin soup legally. We as the dominant species on earth, need to stop acting with our wallet's and start using our minds, not to wage wars or conflict about the environmental damage we cause, but step up to start fixing it. Shark, fish, whales, and every being on earth is at risk until we grow up, humans included.

Tomorrow I should be heading down to Edinburgh Zoo for the first time in AGES, unless it decides to pour rain down on us or something. It will be great to see all the old familiar faces again, hopefully the female sumatran tiger Baginda has got less shy since my last visit, and will be ace to see how much the little baby pygmy hippo eve has grown!

I have been having a very difficult time since Mala passed away. The 16th of this month marked 3 months without her. She was my world and was everything that was beautiful and trustworthy and just within it. She was much more than a best friend and she saved my life multiple times. Something in me died and left this world with her when she did and I will always have this stinging ache in my heart, my soul and my life now that she's gone. But seeing these this morning made me cry; truly, and while I am reminded of what I no longer have in my life, I am also reminded of everything she taught me in this life and the things she touched while she was a part of it.
Thank you; from the deepest parts of me.

The purpose of this project is to create awareness for Endangered Species. In each month of 2012, I will (hopefully) draw, along with others, an animal that is labelled worldwide as an endangered species.
In the description I will include information on the species and list the reasons it is endangered or threatened.
I will not draw species I have already done (Amur Tiger, Maned Wolf, Grevy's Zebra).
At the end of each month, depending on the # of participants, i will do a journal feature. If the participants are few, then i will save it for the end of the year.

When you hear the word "unicorn," most people imagine a horse with a horn. But in history, there have been several different perceptions of unicorns. During medieval times, unicorns could be based either on horses, donkeys, or goats. Before that, some people believed that the oryx had only one horn based on its side view, leading to another view of the unicorn. In Asia, the Chinese and Japanese believed in the qilin/kirin, a deer-based unicorn with two antlers and a scaly body. Yet others argue that unicorns are based on elands, deer, rhinoceroses, and even narwhals. What is your favorite non-equine interpretation of the concept of "unicorn"? Our talented members showed us in this contest!
